First-time diving in Hurghada: choosing an introductory trip

Updated September 12, 2026 · 5 min read

An equipped diver exploring the underwater world of the Red Sea

For your first dive in Hurghada, understanding who will work with you and how matters more than finding the longest day at sea. Eight hours on a listing does not mean eight hours underwater. It is the excursion’s duration, including travel, preparation and other activities. If the seller does not separate those parts from the dive itself, comparing prices is difficult.

Our catalogue dated 12 September 2026 lists 714691, “Intro Diving Beginner and Discover Red Sea Underwater”, from €44.70 per person for eight hours. It has a 4.8 rating from 1,419 reviews. That is a starting point for someone without experience, not evidence that every other option containing the word “diving” works the same way.

What is known about the introductory trip?

The short description of 714691 mentions an introductory Red Sea dive with a professional instructor. Sea Secret Diving’s GetYourGuide profile links this product to that operator. Check the product name and number: Hurghada has many similar titles, and one centre’s conditions do not automatically apply to another. Check the introductory trip · Sea Secret Diving profile

For two adults, the starting budget is €89.40 before extras. For that amount, you need a clear description of the experience purchased: number of dives, approximate length of each and the supervision format. The short catalogue text does not supply enough detail, so we do not add universal minutes or depths. If one dive turns out to be your limit, knowing what happens during the rest of the programme matters.

The high rating helps when looking for accounts of instructor explanations and how waiting is organised. It does not confirm individual supervision, a particular language or identical numbers of beginners per instructor. Request these conditions for your date, especially if understanding spoken explanations precisely is essential.

A trial experience and certification are different purchases

PADI describes Discover Scuba Diving as an introduction before deciding about Open Water Diver certification. That clarifies the concepts; it does not establish that excursion 714691 is a PADI programme. Do not treat “course” in a translated listing as a promise of certification. PADI’s introductory experience

If you want to continue learning after your holiday, ask the centre what you receive at the end and whether that experience can be used later. If you simply want to try diving once, clear preparation and time to discuss doubts matter more. Do not pay for a more expensive programme because of a document absent from its inclusions.

Participation questions cannot be settled independently through this article. Age limits and requirements appear on the operator’s page; the available short description does not justify a single minimum age for Hurghada. If the centre requests a questionnaire or medical clearance, discuss that with it beforehand and health questions with a doctor. We provide neither treatment advice nor instructions for assessing your own fitness.

Why “diving or snorkelling” is not necessarily a diving price

Offer 1274120 combines snorkelling, beginner diving and dives for certified participants. The catalogue lists seven hours from €26.25 per person; its description includes lunch and unlimited soft drinks. However, the starting price for the overall listing does not prove that the introductory dive itself is available at that amount. Open the mixed activity options

A comparison of “€26.25 versus €44.70” therefore does not yet compare identical services. First select beginner participants and the correct activity option. Then check the final basket. Snorkelling for your companion and diving for you may share a photograph while carrying different prices.

This format interests couples with different preferences. One person tries scuba, while the other prefers a mask and snorkel. Yet a shared product listing does not itself confirm that you will travel on the same boat and return together. Have the joint outing confirmed before making two separate bookings.

A second comparison: explicit equipment information

The short description for 1196989 names two guided dives, equipment, a buffet lunch and soft drinks. The trip lasts seven hours, starts at €32 per person and is aimed at beginners or certified divers. Check which listed inclusions apply to your selected option. View the two-dive option

“Equipment included” helps with comparisons but does not answer the sizing question. Tell the centre your required sizes in advance. Ask separately about photographs, possible fees and pickup from your hotel. Do not borrow another product’s price or equipment package simply because both are described as introductory.

Planning the rest of the day

Ask for the sequence from hotel pickup to return, including waiting between water sessions. Breaks may be welcome on a first attempt; someone seeking a quick trial may find a whole day too large a commitment. Choose according to your interest rather than the ratio of price to total duration.

If you worry about changing your mind aboard, establish the available alternative and financial conditions beforehand. Being allowed to remain on deck is not the same as receiving the dive price back. This comparison makes no promise of that compensation. Shade, toilets and somewhere to rest matter for every participant, including those who will not dive.

If the aim is mainly to watch fish calmly without scuba equipment, start with snorkelling. If you specifically want a first dive, compare diving in Hurghada by confirmed option, supervision and underwater time. Send the centre your group’s composition and experience level; its answer should describe your outing rather than repeat the promotional headline.
