Snorkelling trips in Hurghada: how to choose your boat trip
Updated September 12, 2026 · 6 min read
In Hurghada, “snorkelling” appears on both an eight-hour yacht trip with lunch and a four-hour speedboat trip searching for dolphins. The fish photographs look similar, but the days behind them are quite different. If you want plenty of time swimming at a reef, an extensive itinerary with several island stops may suit you less than a trip with fewer activities. For someone mainly interested in the beach, extra stops in the water could become interruptions.
Start with your priority: reefs, island relaxation or variety. Neither the number of islands in the title nor the total duration tells you how much time you will have with a mask and snorkel. This guide compares how the trips work. Prices and review counts below come from our catalogue dated 11 September 2026; prices and available options may change for your chosen date.
Three programmes for different days
The “3 Islands, Dolphins & Snorkel” yacht trip is listed at eight hours, with 8,267 reviews and a starting price of €44 per person. Its short description names Orange Bay, Giftun and Magawish, a seafood lunch, and shared or private formats. It is a starting point for combining a cruise, island stops and swimming. €44 does not establish the price of a private yacht. Check the chosen format separately. See the yacht options
The “Dolphins, Snorkelling & 2 Islands” speedboat is listed at four hours, from €33.25 per person, with 4,085 reviews. Its appeal is the limited duration, not a promise of more animals. Searching for dolphins takes up part of the programme, so this is not four hours of continuous snorkelling. If seeing animals is your sole aim, the whole day depends on something that cannot be scheduled. Check the speedboat trip
The Orange Bay cruise with lunch starts at €45.65 and is listed at eight hours thirty minutes. It makes more sense as an island day combined with swimming than as a dedicated snorkelling practice session. The short description also mentions a massage and buffet lunch. Check which services belong to your option in its inclusions, rather than inferring them from a general photograph. Orange Bay cruise inclusions
Time at sea and time at the reef
Ask the operator to divide the programme into sailing, snorkelling stops, time ashore and meals. You do not need a minute-by-minute promise: the order can change on the water. You need an answer that shows what occupies most of the day. Eight hours including lunch and an island visit does not mean eight hours above coral.
For a first attempt with a mask, it matters whether there is time for a calm explanation before entering the water. “Equipment included” answers a rental question, but says nothing about support for beginners. Ask how masks are fitted, who accompanies the group and whether you can skip a stop. If one person swims confidently and another is nervous, discuss this before paying so the experienced traveller does not become the other’s only source of help.
An island beach does not replace a reef stop
Orange Bay is on Giftun, as the destination’s official website confirms. Listing both names therefore does not automatically mean two separate islands with two landings. Ask a straightforward question: where does the group go ashore, and where does it stay beside a reef? Orange Bay location
A beach option can work when someone likes the sea but does not want to snorkel. However, a beach stop does not confirm that you can remain there until the end of the trip or return separately. The itinerary is shared, and alternative return arrangements need discussion beforehand. Compare offers in our island trips section, and programmes focused on the water under Hurghada snorkelling.
What you pay for beyond a boat seat
Compare the final basket for the same number of adults and your actual hotel. Check transfers, island admission and listed fees separately. “Lunch” does not answer questions about beach drinks; “equipment” does not confirm every size. Do not add an invented compulsory charge to your budget, but do not assume every unknown item is free either.
For two adults, the starting totals are €66.50 for the speedboat and €88 for the three-island yacht. The €21.50 difference applies only to those starting fares. It does not automatically cover a longer hotel transfer or additional purchases. This calculation helps if you are happy to spend a whole day out. With a firm return deadline, a lower cost per extra hour is of little relevance.
When this trip does not suit you
Do not choose a packed itinerary simply because you fear missing an island. If you want to lie on one beach for a long time, frequent changes will interrupt that. If your aim is several relaxed attempts at using a mask, dolphin searching and journeys between stops may be unnecessary. After a tiring overnight flight, even a well-organised long day might not be enjoyable.
With children, first establish whether there is shade, a toilet and life jackets in suitable sizes. Operators set different minimum ages; the conditions are on the individual booking page. The duration of an adult trip does not establish a child’s eligibility. Discuss seasickness and sun protection questions with a pharmacist or paediatrician. Further questions are covered in our guide to boat trips with children.
What to send the operator
In one message, give your hotel, date, participant count and snorkelling experience. Ask for confirmation of the actual return time, the duration of the main water stops and whether you can stay aboard. If relevant, ask about the ladder out of the water: an exterior yacht photograph does not show how comfortable it is to use. Keep the reply with your selected booking option so that you compare promised services as well as appealing names.
