Hurghada with a Baby (0–2 Years): Seasons, Hotels and Short Outings

With a baby under two years old, a city’s range of excursions barely matters. What counts are four things: how hot it is, how long the journey from the airport to the hotel takes, whether there’s shade, and whether the water is warm enough. This article is organised accordingly.

Less heat or warmer sea?

Monthly averages help with planning: at Hurghada airport, average daily highs are around 22°C in January and around 36°C in July and August. Individual days can be hotter. Weather Spark

If less heat is your priority, winter has an advantage. That is a choice about your daily routine, not medical advice on the right age to travel. A mild day does not mean a baby can be left in the sun unprotected.

Spring and autumn are options if you want more time by the water. Discuss which season suits your baby and how to manage heat with your paediatrician before booking.

If you have the choice, don’t go in high summer. If you don’t, because an older sibling has school holidays, then plan the day around the sun: early morning and late afternoon outside, the hours in between indoors.

Ask the hotel about the pool and beach access

The sea is cooler in winter than in late summer. If a pool matters to you, ask the hotel which pool is heated and what its actual water temperature is. The word heated alone does not tell you whether it suits your baby.

Also confirm that the heating will run during your travel dates, rather than simply being installed.

Check recent hotel photos for access to the sea: is there a shallow sandy entrance, or does a jetty lead into deeper water? Ask the hotel which area is intended for playing at the water’s edge. A description of the reef alone does not answer that.

The journey from the airport is a number that counts

Hurghada’s hotels are spread across different districts and resort bays. According to JAZ, Makadi Bay is around 30 kilometres south of the airport. Soma Bay and Safaga are further south, while El Gouna is north of Hurghada. Ask for the journey time to your specific hotel and the number of intermediate stops; distance alone does not describe a shared transfer.

Before booking the transfer, check whether an infant car seat or child seat suitable for your baby’s age and size will be available. Ask for confirmation of the model and how it is fitted; a general promise of a child seat is not enough for a baby.

What actually works with a baby

Start by planning your hotel stay and one short outing that you can skip if necessary. The main difference between the following places is how easily you can get back to your room.

The semi-submarine. Royal Seascope from Hurghada is listed at two hours and from €18.57 per person in our catalogue dated 10 September 2026 (tour 455967). The trip includes an observation deck below the waterline and a snorkelling stop. This does not confirm suitability for infants: before booking, check that your baby can join, how you reach the lower deck and whether suitable lifesaving equipment is available. The Aquarium and Mini Egypt Park. The Hurghada Grand Aquarium can be visited without a guide; the operator suggests one to two hours. The site also includes a zoo with outdoor areas, so it is not an entirely air-conditioned retreat. Twin pushchairs are not permitted according to the FAQ. Mini Egypt Park in Makadi Bay displays its models outdoors. Choose a cooler part of the day for it. The souk in El Dahar in the early evening. You do not need to book a full excursion day for a short market visit. The journey depends on your hotel, though; from Makadi Bay it is not a stroll around the corner. Plan the return journey too. Read about the district in What to see in Hurghada.

For your pushchair, check the actual route from the hotel to your destination: is there a continuous pavement, kerbs or soft sand? Arrange suitable transport for difficult routes rather than assuming you can walk a long distance.

What we’d advise against

The full-day boat trip to the islands. One specific example is the Luxury Cruise to Orange Bay (tour 387390), listed at eight and a half hours. Other island trips are shorter; that does not establish suitability for babies. On a boat, you cannot decide when to return to your hotel as you can on a city visit. The desert safari. We would leave out dusty, bumpy quad and buggy rides with an infant. If older siblings want to go, check the participation conditions for their specific trip and arrange separate care for the baby. Desert safari from Hurghada.

Cairo and Luxor. Even Cairo flight excursion 818331 is listed as a 14-hour day; tour 1122404 gives 16–17 hours across its language versions. These are excursion durations, not flight times. Luxor is also a long day trip overland. On a holiday with a baby, we would leave these programmes out and save the temples or pyramids for a separate trip.

The dolphin trip. A sighting cannot be promised on trips to wild dolphins. Ask the operator which reef the trip visits and how long it takes, rather than assuming every trip follows the same route to Sha’ab El Erg. We would not plan the long day on a boat for a baby.

Sort out feeding before the trip

Discuss preparing infant formula while travelling and sun protection with your paediatrician or a pharmacist. Bottled water is not automatically suitable for infant formula, as the NHS also explains. Ask the hotel specifically about facilities for hygienic preparation and cleaning; being able to buy water locally does not answer that question.

Do not count on finding a particular brand of nappies or baby food in Hurghada either. Bring familiar products for the journey and first few days, and check beforehand where you can get suitable supplies.
