Island hopping from Hurghada: two islands or a six-island route?
Updated September 12, 2026 · 5 min read
Choosing an island trip from Hurghada by counting the islands in its title can create the wrong expectations. The name does not tell you where you will land, snorkel from the boat or simply cruise past the shore. What matters more is how often you pack your belongings, how long you stay on one beach and whether you enjoy travelling between stops.
Our catalogue dated 12 September 2026 lists the “2 Islands” speedboat, number 290630, at four hours from €33.25 per person, and “6 Islands”, number 641548, at eight hours from €40. The starting-price difference is small compared with the difference in time. That does not automatically make the longer programme better: choose it for the movement between places, not for an imagined number of beach hours.
Two islands: what the short listing confirms
290630 names a speedboat, dolphins, snorkelling and two islands. It has a 4.6 rating from 4,085 reviews. The short description confirms a combination of marine wildlife, snorkelling and sunbathing but supplies no detailed landing schedule. Four hours is therefore a guide to the excursion’s duration, not the sum of your time on sand. Check the two-island route
This option makes sense if you want changing sea views while keeping part of the day for your hotel. Ask for the two destinations included in your option and how you reach the shore. The word “island” does not explain whether there is a jetty, a transfer to another boat or a different landing arrangement. Do not promise anyone an easy water entry solely from a beach photograph.
Also establish whether transfers belong within the stated duration. Four hours from boat departure and four hours from hotel pickup leave different amounts of free time. If you already have an evening reservation, tell the operator when you need to be back at your hotel, rather than just at the jetty.
Six islands: a specific interest in the sandbank
Offer 641548 has a 4.7 rating and 2,477 reviews. Alongside dolphins and snorkelling, its description mentions a walk on the Juzur Abū Minqār sandbank. That detail distinguishes the route from a general promise of beautiful islands. Travellers interested in different stretches of sea and the sandbank should examine this programme more closely. Open the eight-hour route
However, the short listing does not confirm six separate landings or the length of each. Ask for the itinerary broken down by stop type: shore, snorkelling from the boat, passing by. If one place matters more than the others, name it in your question. “Six islands” alone does not tell you where you can spend an hour without the next call to regroup.
Confirm the conditions for visiting the sandbank and the order of stops for your date. Do not construct a timetable from photographs of a strip of sand: the catalogue contains no access schedule you can rely on. Find out in advance what replaces that section if it is unavailable, and whether the substitute suits you.
Do not add Orange Bay and Giftun together
Orange Bay’s official website places the beach area on Giftun Island. Seeing both names side by side therefore does not establish two separate islands. This matters when a route has an impressive list of names but fewer actual places to stop. Orange Bay’s location
The eight-hour yacht trip 888318, for example, lists Orange Bay, Giftun and Magawish, plus a seafood lunch; its starting price is €44 per person. Compare it with speedboats by activities and confirmed stops. The number of words on a map does not measure the value of a day. Our Orange Bay options guide covers that individual beach destination.
Prices for two: the main extra cost is time
At the starting rates, two adults pay €66.50 for 290630 and €80 for 641548. The difference is €13.50, while the catalogue duration increases from four to eight hours. This is arithmetic using starting prices before possible fees and transfer supplements, not a completed quote for your date.
Cheap additional hours are useful only if you want to spend them on the excursion. If your aim is reading quietly on one beach, a long route with repeated changes may feel more tiring than a short one. If you enjoy the crossings and changing views themselves, there is no need to shorten the day just to return for your hotel lunch.
Check food separately: lunch on the yacht does not carry over to a speedboat simply because both trips last eight hours. Establish drinks, beach-area entry and included equipment too. Compare final baskets for the same date and the same participants.
Will this pace suit your group?
Agree on the main priority before paying: one long beach stay or a variety of stops. If opinions differ, request the actual plan rather than voting for the prettiest picture. Anyone who does not want to snorkel needs to know where they stay during the water stop and whether shade and a resting place are available there.
For a child, repeated boarding and regrouping can be harder than a single longer stay. Age conditions appear on the relevant operator’s booking page; we do not infer them from the boat’s name. Children’s life jacket sizes, a toilet and overhead shade need separate confirmation. Discuss seasickness and sun protection with a pharmacist or paediatrician.
If the answer about actual landings stays vague, do not treat every name as a promised visit. Compare island trips with reef-focused outings and save the description of your selected option. Buy the day whose sequence everyone understands before meeting at the hotel.
