Half-day trips with kids in Hurghada: boats, transfers and costs

The Orange Bay cruise in our comparison lasts eight and a half hours; the speedboat to two islands takes four. That matters for families in Hurghada: getting back to the hotel in the afternoon requires a suitable return transfer as well as a faster boat. Especially if you stay in Makadi Bay or Sahl Hasheesh, ask for hotel pick-up and return times before planning your morning.

A short trip can leave much of the holiday day free. It is not a smaller full-day trip with identical inclusions, though. These examples help you choose between watching the reef, visiting an island beach and staying on land.

Four hours do not necessarily mean a morning

The catalogue lists the Orange Bay cruise with lunch at eight and a half hours, the three-island yacht trip at eight and the two-island speedboat at four. These are different programmes. Their durations do not establish a fixed crossing time or the length of each beach visit.

Ask whether the duration of your booking option includes hotel transfers. A four-hour afternoon trip will not get you back before a lunchtime nap. Nor does “two islands” tell you how long you spend ashore. If beach time is the priority, ask how much you get and whether there are additional snorkelling stops.

Short trips on the water

Prices and review counts come from our comparison of 224 offers on 10 September 2026. They are starting prices per person, not calculated family fares. The final price depends on the date, children’s ages and booking option.

• Royal Seascope: two hours, from €18.57, 5,424 reviews. The semi-submarine offers an underwater observation deck and a snorkelling stop. If you want to stay dry, check where you can wait during that stop. The panoramic semi-submarine trip with hotel pick-up is a separate booking: three hours from €15.47.
• Speedboat to two islands: four hours, from €33.25, 4,085 reviews. The programme includes searching for dolphins, snorkelling and sunbathing. A search is not a promised sighting.
• High-Speed Sea Taxi to Orange Bay or Magawish: four hours from €24.50. Despite the name “taxi”, its description also mentions snorkelling. Do not book assuming it only includes the outward and return journey.
• Dolphin House Morning Cruise: five hours from €33.25, with lunch and hotel pick-up. The offer explicitly gives no dolphin guarantee. Five hours of programme plus transfers can extend beyond a short morning.

What to establish before booking a speedboat

Shade and seats: “Speedboat” does not establish that there is a canopy, nor does “yacht” prove there is a shaded seat for every child. Have the equipment on the actual boat confirmed. A winter date does not remove the need to ask.

Toilet and rest: Ask about a usable toilet on board and how to reach it. A child who has only just been toilet-trained may not be able to wait for the next island stop. If somewhere to lie down for a nap is essential, that also needs specific confirmation.

Food: Both long yacht trips explicitly mention lunch. For the four-hour speedboat, check food and drink inclusions separately. Plan meals around the time between hotel pick-up and return, not just the advertised trip duration.

Check return times alongside the weather

A morning departure does not guarantee calm seas. To choose between departures, use the forecast and the operator’s assessment of the actual route. The clock alone cannot tell you which boat will be more comfortable for a sensitive child.

The Hula Hula sunset offer is listed at five to nine hours, from €16.76 with snorkelling and lunch. Have the duration of your option confirmed; the shorter figure does not automatically apply to every booking. It suits families who deliberately want a later outing. Check the hotel return time and when food is served. Neither a low price nor the word “sunset” tells you about the waves. Families wanting an early bedtime need a different departure or programme.

Half days on land

These durations also come from the listings. Check whether transfers fit within them for your chosen option.

• Beach and desert horse riding: one hour from €10.80, with transfer named in the title. The version listed at two to three hours from €13.20 describes swimming with the horse as optional. Confirm minimum ages and suitable experience beforehand.
• Desert and beach camel ride: this offer names one hour riding within a two-hour tour with transfers. That is different from two hours in the saddle.
• Mini Egypt Park: three hours from €25.44, with entry, tour and transfers named in the title. The operator places the park in Makadi Bay. Ask for current visiting times for your date. Mini Egypt Park

What the shorter day actually costs

Two bookings of the four-hour speedboat at €33.25 each total €66.50 per person. The eight-hour three-island yacht is listed from €44. It has the most reviews in our catalogue, at 8,267; that does not establish booking numbers or general popularity beyond our comparison.

For these two examples, two half days cost more, but spread the effort across two days. Whether that is worth the extra depends on whether your children enjoy the long trip or want to return after a few hours. Child fares and transfers can change the family total.

When we would keep it short

After an overnight flight, we would avoid committing to a four-hour trip. With a baby, we would not book an open speedboat without confirmed shade. For a child with no boat experience, we would first choose a short trip in suitable conditions, without assuming the Seascope is especially easy on the stomach.
