Hurghada with a pushchair: where it rolls, where it gets stuck – and when a carrier works better

Hurghada’s hotel districts stretch along the coast. A pushchair can save a lot of carrying between your room, restaurant and pool; a trip to El Dahar or the Giftun Islands needs separate planning.

The Marina and El Mamsha are options for a short evening walk. The specific route from your hotel or taxi drop-off matters.

Where the pushchair rolls

The Marina. Hurghada Marina Boulevard has restaurants beside the yacht harbour. For an evening with a pushchair or wheelchair, ask your chosen restaurant to confirm the route from the taxi drop-off to the table and toilets, including steps and ramps. A continuously step-free promenade has not been verified here.

El Mamsha. The tourist promenade runs between hotels, cafés and shops. Plan a short section from your hotel and ask to see the access route, including kerbs and road crossings; a continuously step-free route has not been verified.

Where it gets stuck

Sheraton Road in Sakkala. Don’t plan on an uninterrupted walk away from traffic here. Ask your chosen restaurant about the drop-off and route over kerbs; being able to use one stretch says nothing about the whole road.

El Dahar. The bazaar is a different outing from the hotel promenade. Before travelling, check how close a taxi can get to the part of the market you want to visit and whether you can push your buggy there. A carrier may be more practical for a short market visit.

At the beach. An ordinary buggy is hard to push over loose sand; ask your hotel about firm paths as far as the sunbeds. How you get into the water in the hotel bays, and which beaches suit small children, is covered in Family-friendly beaches in Hurghada.

At the hotel: big resorts, long distances

The big resorts are often sprawling, and between room, restaurant, pool and beach, quite a few trips add up over a day. That’s exactly where a pushchair is most useful – provided the paths are paved, not sand or gravel.

On the boat

Our catalogue’s short tour descriptions do not specify whether pushchairs can be brought or stowed. Ask before booking whether a folded buggy is allowed on board and where it will go. For a baby, too, have seating and a suitable life jacket confirmed; a carrier does not replace that check.

Orange Bay on Giftun and the beaches of Magawish are among the island destinations from Hurghada. An ordinary buggy is of little use on loose sand; ask the operator about the jetty and beach access. Shorter alternatives to an eight-hour day are in Half day instead of full day.

The Royal Seascope observation cabin is below the waterline. Before booking, have access, every step and storage for your mobility aid confirmed for the specific vessel. Its two-hour duration alone does not establish accessibility.

Aquarium, mall and Mini Egypt

Hurghada Grand Aquarium. According to the operator the site is wheelchair-accessible, with one exception: the suspension bridge. Have access for your pushchair confirmed before visiting. Senzo Mall. A shopping centre with a food court and an indoor play area – an obvious choice for a scorching day with a pushchair. We haven’t found any reliable information on lifts.

Mini Egypt Park. Here too we lack a solid statement on what the paths are like. Anyone wanting to bring a pushchair should ask when booking. What else works on land is covered under Things to do in Hurghada.

Luxor and Cairo with a pushchair

For small children we’d advise against both day trips, if only because of the travel time – the reasons are covered in Hurghada with kids. For anyone going anyway:

Carrying instead of pushing – and why that’s tiring in summer

A carrier can be useful for short walks over sand or a market visit in El Dahar. The catch is the heat. In July and August average daily highs sit around 36°C, and a child strapped to your chest is then an extra source of warmth for both of you.

When we’d advise against it

Taking the twin pushchair into the aquarium. According to the operator it isn’t allowed in – knowing that beforehand saves an argument at the entrance.
